This was IBC 2016

For the third time in a row, MediaNet Flanders and Flanders Investment & Trade organized a group stand at IBC in Amsterdam. Eight companies were given the chance to put their knowledge, products and new releases to a wide, international audience. Another 21 Flemish companies and members of MediaNet Flanders did the same on their separate booth in one of the 15 exhibition halls.

We closed the first trading day with a networking reception on the group stand, on invitation by the colleagues of FIT the Hague.

On Sunday evening VRT Sandbox, EBU & partners won the Innovation Award for Content Creation for their Live IP-project. The Ketnet-app, in cooperation with Small Town Heroes received the silver medal in the category Content Management. More information about the winners can be found here.

The visitors on Monday had the opportunity to take part in the “Best of IBC”-tour organized by our Dutch colleagues of iMMovator. The two-hour tour brought them in top speed along the most innovative technologies of IBC 2016.

Sven Gatz, Minister of Media, visited us at IBC. Together with Dirk Verlee and Kurt Vleminckx of Flanders Investment & Trade, he visited the group stand of MediaNet Flanders and FIT. He talked with various companies and took the chance to congratulate Small Town Heroes on their second prize at the IBC Innovation Awards. The importance of product innovation and the need for internationalization was an important topic. There was also a visit to the Live IP studio of VRT Sandbox. The perfect moment for the Minister to congratulate them with their Innovation Award.

After a short passage through the “Future Zone”, we visited MediaGeniX. They received this years’ “Lion of the Export” out of hand of Flemish Prime Minister Geert Bourgeois. Dirk Debraekeleer, CEO, gave more information about the international path of his company. We closed with a visit at DB Video at the outdoor exhibition. Dimitri Beyaert, CEO of DB Video explained their new technology used for the brand new OB-van, which was shown to the professional audience.

During this two-hour work visit, we gave the Minister of Media an idea of the internationalization of the Flemish media-industry. President Dirk Vanhegen used this opportunity to emphasize the importance of active support by the Flemish Government, both in terms of innovation and international cooperation, to be able to compete in the international playing field.

Of course, IBC would not be complete without the final network reception. Under the Dutch sun, more than 130 colleagues found their way to the outdoorstand of DB Video for a cold drink. We would like to thank DB Video and Riedel Communications for the nice organization of the succesfull reception. A short video of the network reception can be found here.
